Portrait Series

Artist Statement: I like the collage, but I think next time I could have taken the picture in better lighting. Also, I think I could have added a little color into the collage.

Photography Composition

Leading Line

Leading Line - A line that leads you visually to an object or that leads into the distance creating depth.

This image is an example of a “Leading Line” because your eyes follow down the street which leads into a distance which creates depth.

Framing

Framing - Shooting through something to get the main subject behind it. The subject is “framed” by something in the foreground.

This image is an example of “Framing” because the subject is her eye and her hands are framing around it.

Informal Balance

Informal Balance – Different things catch your eye, not just one. (Multiple objects – tend to be asymmetrical)

This image is an example of “Informal Balance” because the orange is smaller than the apple which makes it asymmetrical.
Formal Balance

Formal Balance – Both sides of the picture are similar (symmetrical)

This image is an example of “Formal Balance” because the swings are even and symmetrical.

Silhouette

Silhouette – The lighting comes from behind the subject in your picture.
This image is an example of a “Silhouette” because the ocean is the main focus of the picture. The sunset (lighting) is in the background.
